Sand Mountain Cooperative Education Center
Marshall County, Alabama
Our mission: expand and strengthen worker-ownership and cooperative institutions.
We use ownership to teach.
We use education to build ownership.
At the Sand Mountain Cooperative Education Center, we believe that:
1) Everyone deserves access to the dignity of ownership.
2) Wealth should flow back to the communities that produce it.
3) Ownership is more than a right. It’s a skillset.
Cooperative Education: Training the next generation of workers to be owners
How do you train a workforce that approaches all business like an owner? We do workforce development by training teenagers and adults and then help connect them with local worker-owned businesses.
The Owner’s Workshop
Ownership is competitive. But most worker-owned companies do not fully utilize the natural advantages of ownership.
The Owner’s Workshop offers tools, training, and strategic advice to worker-owned businesses to help them win in the marketplace and grow the pool of owners and worker-owned assets in the economy.
Glow and Grow Fundraising Cooperative
Glow + Grow is a fundraising co-op that helps bring resources to small local nonprofits while teaching high school students literacy, research, and civic skills. As a cooperative of fundraisers and grant writers, students and staff are co-owners of Glow and Grow, which means they pay themselves for their work and have a vote at Board Meetings.
